Another World Book Day is the bag, and this year I had a great time at the amazing Bolton Library and Museum talking to lots of children from local schools.

Pupils from Haslam Park, Cherry Tree, St Thomas Halliwell and Castle Hill joined me in BLMS’ lecture theatre for some fun, loud and interactive sessions.

I’m still staggered by the creative imaginations of children when put on the spot by me. The bravery they show when faced with large audiences of over 100 people is also incredibly impressive. The highlight for me being the shark swimming team the children constructed having ‘Just Eat’ as a sponsor.

Bolton Central Library great venue

Bolton Central Library is an amazing space to speak to primary school children and also a great place just to have a wander around in you are in the area.

The venue has something for everyone, and includes a museum, an art gallery and Greater Manchester’s only public aquarium, where I met my spirit fish – The Humbug Talking Catfish. Their sandwiches aren’t bad idea.

BLMS’ Ancient Egypt Gallery is one of the biggest of its kind outside of London, and has plenty of fascinating artifacts. It also includes two mummies with very interesting origin stories. The chap in the picture below was kept in someone’s bedroom until her new boyfriend begged her to donate it to the museum.

I’d like to thank the amazing staff at Bolton Central Libraries, especially Caroline Hall and Wendy Baker who made me feel very welcome for the whole day.

What the punters said

Caroline Hall from BLMS said: “Scott had great rapport with children and fantastic working with large groups of children of variety of ages”

Teachers said: “Scott was really engaging and we’re using some of the ideas from the group brainstorm to inspire some of the children’s independent writing this week.”

I still have some availability for March and April if any primary schools or libraries want to get me in for some fun talks.

Or if you are really thinking ahead why not book me in for World Book Day 2027.

Visit my contacts page, social media or go via Authors Aloud to get in touch for a chat to discuss the range of assemblies, workshops and talks I can provide.

Finally, here’s a few pictures from the day including me in my Rene Higuita wig… sorry.
